Alright, we all love CBD but how many of us actually know why it effects us the way it does? We're going to break down the answer for ya into bite sized blog posts. So here's part 1.
If we're talking about the "Why's" of CBD and our bodies we have to talk about the Endocannabinoid system (ECS). It is actually one of the most important systems in our bodies because it establishes and maintains our overall health. It helps keep our bodies in homeostasis, we all remember 4th grade science class right? Just in case you don't here's a refresher. Homeostasis, also called the "Goldilocks Zone", is the steady internal environment which allows the body to function at it's most optimum. It is maintained despite outside effects like, temperature and bacteria. It's when we can't maintain our homeostasis that we can feel the difference.
The ECS is made of three critical parts: endocannabinoids, internal cannabinoid receptors, and metabolic enzymes. Endocannabinoids are small molecules that work to activate cannabinoid receptors, which are found throughout the body on the surface of our cells. Once these receptors are activated, metabolic enzymes break down the used endocannabinnoids.
And that's all folks! Actually we're not even close to being done talking about the Endocannabinoid System. This was just a quick appetizer remember? We'll have your salad ready for part two of CBD & OUR BODIES!
